Alan's changing role

Since making a commitment over 31 years ago to save the dying Caledonian Forest, Alan Watson Featherstone has worked tirelessly to achieve his vision. He set about recruiting supporters. finding funding and developing a strategy to restore the forest, and his drive and energy gave rise to the charity, Trees for Life, as it is today. In 2016, Steve Micklewright was appointed as the new CEO and, with the help of Alan’s support, guidance and knowledge, took on all the strategic and operational management of the organisation.

Alan is now stepping down from his role at Trees for Life, though he is still a member of the Board. Alan says: “The work of restoring the Caledonian Forest, and indeed many other forests all around the world, is more important than ever today. I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone who has participated in and supported the work of Trees for Life over the past three decades – because of your commitment and dedication, the charity is well-placed to make an ongoing substantial contribution to the return of native forests in the Highlands.”

Steve, CEO, says: ‘We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Alan for the legacy that he has given the world in the form of Trees for Life. He has inspired many people across the globe to care for the wild forest in the Highlands. I’m confident that Trees for Life will go from strength to strength thanks to the secure foundations he has laid and achieve his bold vision to restore the Caledonian Forest in the Scottish Highlands.’
